Batteries
Battery rebate by model
The federal discount follows usable capacity, which is often smaller than the number in a battery’s name.
Approved list checked
Here is each battery’s smallest and largest listed size on the Clean Energy Council’s approved list, and what the smallest earns before and after 1 January 2027.

Reading the table
A battery’s smallest size usually earns the most per kilowatt-hour, because the whole of it falls in the first 14 kWh, where the factor applies in full. Stacking modules past 14 kWh still adds rebate, but each extra kilowatt-hour earns 60% as much, and past 28 kWh only 15%.
The number of certificates depends on the battery’s usable capacity, which the department defines as the amount of energy that can be discharged, and only the first 50 kWh of usable capacity counts. (DCCEEW, checked )
Every capacity here is the usable figure on the Clean Energy Council’s approved batteries list, which the program uses for certificate claims. Where a maker’s label differs, the list wins. (Clean Energy Council approved batteries list, checked )
After the taper began on 1 May 2026, the average battery installed fell from 36 kWh in April to about 23 kWh in May and June. (Clean Energy Regulator, checked )
Missing a battery? The calculator takes any usable capacity, so you can type in the figure from your quote. We add a battery to this list once its maker publishes a usable figure we can link to.
